Our History

Joel Tirschwell (1938-2006) was a pioneer in the field of asset management. Born on February 8, 1938 in Brooklyn, Joel graduated from James Madison High School, Princeton University and the Columbia University School of International Affairs. After working for the CIA from 1962 to 1965, and later for Gilder & Co. and Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co., Joel founded J. Tirschwell & Co. in 1977.

Joel’s warmth, wisdom, and keen insight became the very foundation of the company. The culture was, and continues to be, a direct reflection of Joel’s dedication, integrity and loyalty to both his clients and his colleagues.
